Itinerary

Day 1Day-wise Itinerary – Day Ice Climbing in Manali

Drive Distance: 10–20 km (depending on ice conditions)
Climbing Time: 4–5 hours on natural ice
Approach: Short walk from road head

Morning:

Meet your Into Wild Himalaya Expeditions ice climbing guide at 8:00 AM in Manali for introductions, safety briefing, and equipment check. After a short drive toward ice climbing areas near Manali (Solang side or shaded forest valleys), reach the frozen waterfall selected based on current ice quality and weather conditions.

At the base of the climb, guides demonstrate the use of ice axes, crampons, helmets, and harnesses, followed by basic movement and footwork training.

Midday:

Begin ice climbing on top-rope setups under close supervision. Climbers take turns ascending natural ice lines while guides manage belays, anchors, and safety systems.

Between climbs, instructors provide hands-on coaching covering:

  • Ice axe placements

  • Front-pointing and balance

  • Efficient movement on ice

  • Belay communication and discipline

Enjoy a packed vegetarian lunch and hot drinks during breaks while surrounded by frozen Himalayan landscapes.

Afternoon:

Progress to slightly steeper ice lines depending on comfort and ability. Participants gain confidence climbing higher and cleaner sections of ice while learning how to descend safely.

The session concludes with a short debrief on ice conditions, safety practices, and progression paths for multi-day ice climbing courses or expeditions in the Himalayas.

Evening:

Wrap up the activity by late afternoon. Drive back to Manali, arriving by 4:30–5:00 PM, marking the end of an unforgettable Himalayan winter adventure.
