The Himalayan Escape is a 10- to 12-day guided Royal Enfield motorcycle expedition from Leh through the remote valleys of Ladakh, Hanle, and Umling La (5,883 m) the world’s highest motorable pass. Operated by Into Wild Himalaya Expeditions, it’s a once in a lifetime challenge combining altitude, culture, and pure Himalayan thrill.
It’s rated advanced because of thin air, extreme weather, and long off-road stretches. Riders must have 2 + years of experience on 350–450 cc motorcycles and previous exposure to high-altitude terrain. This ride is ideal for seasoned motorcyclists seeking the ultimate Himalayan test.
Each participant rides a Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 cc or Scram 450 cc, freshly serviced before departure. A 4×4 backup vehicle accompanies the group with luggage, spares, oxygen, and a certified mechanic. Lead and sweep riders maintain convoy safety and communication.
Starting in Leh, the circuit includes Nubra Valley → Pangong Lake → Hanle → Umling La → Tso Moriri → Leh, reaching elevations from 3,500 m to nearly 5,900 m. Expect iconic passes—Khardung La, Chang La, and Umling La—and some of Ladakh’s least-traveled landscapes.
July to September is ideal. Roads are open, weather is stable, and the oxygen levels, though low, are more manageable. Early July brings fresh snow on passes; late August–September offers crystal-clear skies.
Riders should maintain moderate cardiovascular fitness and hydration discipline. Light cardio, breathing exercises, and high-altitude conditioning are recommended before arrival in Leh.
Into Wild Himalaya Expeditions has over 20 years of Himalayan experience and is among the few operators authorized and equipped to conduct guided motorcycle tours to Umling La safely with professional support, oxygen backup, and authentic local engagement.
Yes. Inner-line permits are mandatory and arranged entirely by Into Wild Himalaya Expeditions for both Indian and international participants. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required for foreign riders.

Our guides are certified in Wilderness First Aid through NOLS and the Hanifl Centre for Outdoor Education, enabling them to handle emergencies with skill and confidence. All bikes are inspected daily, and safety briefings are conducted before every ride.
